  2. I'm looking forward to watching this and im hoping it gives people an insight into what some of our lives are like and maybe the visits hall/room will look a bit more realistic than it does in other programs.

  3. I agree with Kristy, I am looking forward to watching it too. I just hope it is the real deal!

Is Prison Widow UK in it? she should be because I hope this drama is not all doom and gloom - us prisoners wife's do have a sense of humour sometimes - we have to have one to get through it! I'll watch it later and give my opinion on it. xxx

  10. I actually thought it was pretty good and actually cried when the arm response unit crashed through their door. How stressful is that when you are pregnant? The woman telling her kid that his dad is working was very realistic. I look forward to next weeks episode but would like a bit of humour thrown somewhere because there is an element of it at visitors centre. The first episode was a good account of how some things are. Especially the pregnant lass. The coppers? Well I agree with the above poster LOL x

  11. Always very dubious on anything screened to do with prisoners families because I haven't seen a good job of it done. But I quite liked this drama and the way it has been done. The house raid upset me because I've been through that ( but I wasn't pregnant ) and I've been treated like crap by the Police too. I'm hoping the drama shows some of the screws in their true colours and the drugs dog getting it all wrong like they often do.. Up to now though i'm impressed

  12. I don't think you can tell by the first episode to be honest. It could become very far fetched or it could end up being a bloody good drama. What I don't want it to do is make us out to be fools because lets remember, the general public have a very low opinion of us to start with. Up to now though, it's well balanced.

  13. I enjoyed the first episode but as someone else said it could go either way hopefully not the way footballers wives went years ago. it made me cry that first visit sad memories she said to her it gets easier but it doesn't you just learn to deal with it.

  14. Not a lover of the BBC at all. But the drama tonight was brill!!! It depressed me and upset me a bit because something on there tonight reminded me of me. I hope the programme covers issues like lost property and like the other poster said, searches when the dog gets it wrong when we have travelled for hours to see our hubby;s then get a closed visit etc etc. It could have done with a bit of a rum character who isnt afraid to speak their mind to the screws and stuff because I have met some very funny prisoners wifes on my prison visits. I hope they keep it real but when all said and done it is a drama. I did think the first episode was very good though. Lots of love from Carol

  16. It wasn't well balanced for me I'm afraid. I've been visiting prison's for ten years and there is always a family that puts a smile on your face and have this amazing black humour about the prison journey. The situation we are in is very depressing. But there are times when someone makes us laugh about the prison journey and that's real life. No matter what sad situation we are in, there is always a character that keeps us going. The storyline so far seems a good one and what the drama covered tonight was pretty impressive. Did you notice the screws faces though? Most of them are miserable but they aren't ALL that miserable lol. Some of them do manage a smile now and then lol. It's a drama and NOT a documentary so that is what we have to keep in mind, so anything can happen.

  17. I loved it and I can't wait to see the female characters become more exposed as individuals facing real issues. Confiscation orders and having to get back to basics. They are bound by one factor and yet from different walks of life and this is exactly how I've experienced it in the visit centres. It's a melting pot of bodies that can end up creating their own supportive community. Well done tiger aspects

  18. @ Anonymous.. I agree so much with you. I have made friends for life on prison visits and it has been the kindness of strangers that has got me through my problems. I loved it

  20. I'm usually critical of any programme concerning prisoners families. However, I thought tonight's first episode of Prisoner's Wife's was excellent. Some of you mentioned that a bit of the humour aspect was missing. In fact, the part where the house had a leak and Franni helped to sort it, made me chuckle, and both prisoners wife's managed a smile, which I related to. I'd looked forward to watching this drama all week, and it didn't disappoint. My heart was beating so fast when the house was raided and I had tears in my eyes. If you watch it again, then you will see some light-hearted humour, especially a scene in the visits room with Franni and her hubby! Hee hee! A great start to an addictive drama I think!

  21. Hi all, I have spent the last 5 years working with TA on this project, my husband is 7 years into a 25 yr sentence. They really have done their research, it was emotional seeing the "red dot on his face" replayed for real after describing it to them in detail, but overall I am pleased with the result. One of the conditions I set down when giving research is that prisoners families are not made to look bad, which they have achieved sensitively, if you look at all the tv mag interviews all the actors are compasionate towards prisoners families and shocked at what goes on behind prison walls. I think it will get better not worse, and hopefully dispel some of the ignorance Loz x

  25. ( Wife of Prisoner )

Thanks so much Lorna for doing research for this programme. I was worried that the drama was going to give an unrealistic account of what we really go through. I was upset when I saw the red light because it brought back so many awful memories of a similar experience that i had. A much well deserved hat-tip for the real prisoners wives who have provided the info for this program to be made

  26. Too early for me to make a comment on the drama yet. I do hope though that they keep the storyline grounded to some degree. As someone else said on the thread, it's not a documentary, it's a drama when all said and done.

  27. Hello everyone - I don't have a husband in prison but I just want to say how much it made me realize that families go through hell when one of their husbands or relatives are sent to prison - I am very shocked at the treatment of the wives and the part about the young boy upset me

  28. I'll see how the drama pans out before I give my opinion on it. As prisoners wives, we all have our own individual issues going on, so I want to see whether certain things are covered in the BBC drama. xxxx

  29. My partner went inside only 2 weeks ago and I am brand new to all of this so don't feel completely at ease giving my opinion, however her visit made me cry because in my opinion it was very similar for me...completely alien when you've never had to go before. XxX

  33. Can I just say something. We are all individuals going through our own different headaches. I can't see how this drama is going to have a profound impact on members of the public who haven't been through what we are going through. I'm not saying I didn't like the drama, I thought some things in it were spot on! But from my experience and comments I have heard, and predictable comments at that, many people cannot understand why someone would stand by their man when they have committed a serious crime. They don't get it because they have to wear our shoes to even try and understand a bit of it. I'm just watching it as a drama and not a documentary, because it isn't a documentary!

  39. The blog is regulated so that morons using other peoples names cannot comment on topics that are personal to individuals. Are some people feeling a bit guilty that they helped the BBC with this wonderful drama?

  40. I love the drama, but I am also a realist. Some prisoners families WILL NOT LIKE IT, and that's for obvious reasons. If prisoners family members can't handle some home truths, then they really need to get a grip in my opinion. F****** pathetic if some of you so called prisoners families are throwing your rattles out of your cots because others may not like the drama - no guesses where those people are from LOL!

  41. The BBC drama is ace.. but some people in our situations wont like it,, whats wrong with that? some of these comments cant be from prisoners family members,,, sorry but no way if they are the real deal would they tell someone to stop whinging about the children of prisoners being bullied

  42. I've often voiced my opinion through Inside Time newspaper and various online forums. My comments have been talked about and slated, but I couldn't give a monkeys. I'm a prisoners wife and I am entitled to my opinion. I think the BBC drama is excellent. If I thought it was crap, then I'd say it was crap, whether you lot ( prisoners families ) liked it or not. It's a drama, not dispatches! Why has the drama been made? Has it been made to raise awareness ( as someone has said ) or has it been made to make BBC more money? Put it this way, Holby City, wasn't made to raise awareness of hospitals, so I rest my case! I once said in an article that many prisoners wives know exactly what their other-half's get up to. And they do! Not all prisoners wives are in the ( I didn't know he was engaging in criminal activity clap trap ) Many of them know, they spend the dirty money, go on holidays, buy designer clothes, and then cry their eyes out when their old man gets banged up! So no, some prisoners families don't wash with me. ( I miss my man and HMP are bastards, but my house is so lovely ) You may not like my comment, but tough. I'm not deluded about the situation. The children matter to me, it's the kids that suffer and if the BBC drama has caused some upset ( which lets face it, if some of you didn't think it would, you are plain thick ) then I would like to read about it because it's life. It's not fucking drama!

  44. If the drama has been made to raise awareness - then people wouldn't object to stories being published about the problems they are having... duh! The drama was bound to upset some prisoners families.. PRATS!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I like the drama too, but all those who say that their children come first, listen to what I was asked. Someone asked me if the drama was realistic. I said yes. Then she asked me then why would some heavily pregnant woman risk having her baby taken off her by hiding her hubby's gun? She then said if that's love then we are all saddo's. So alot of people are having their two pence about the drama and prisoners wives are being slagged off. But thats the price of a drama. It doesn't bother me coz I've heard it all before. But I can imagine that some are very affected by it.
