Dementia and Prison Visiting - From Stacey

Hi Prisoners Families Voices. I saw a post where you asked people if Prison Officers should be trained when dealing with Dementia patients. My Dad has dementia and we visit my brother once a fortnight. His illness is getting worse but I will not deny him a visit to see his son, he is entitled to it. During one visit, he wandered off around the visits room and was told abruptly by a prison officer to go and sit back down or else they would 'throw him out.' No I do not think that prison officers have the slightest bloody clue when dealing with people with illnesses such as dementia and with more and more people being diagnosed with it, the Prison Service should start looking at training! Love and best wishes Stacey.
